For me, beads are purely an aesthetic
experience. Their history is always fascinating, but it is the color,
the texture, and the form that feeds the passion and love I have for
them. . It has been over forty years since my interest and attraction to
beads first developed, when I was beginning my education as a painter
and art educator in Chicago. I have been a serious designer of beaded
jewelry since 1991 and have created my own lamp work beads and fused
glass pieces since 1997.
Working with the fused glass and the lamp work beads can be totally
consuming. Each design is like creating an abstract painting. The color
and shape in addition to the variety of possibilities as determined by
layering the glass or creating a cluster of beads is what drives the
creation. One piece leads to another, then to a series, and then to a
body of work. The ideas come at all times. The colors, shapes and
textures are always with me as I imagine how each creation is going to
look. One design leads to the next. The unlimited possibilities of
creating fused glass and lamp work beads keeps me totally engaged in a
process that is a constant joy and an aesthetic and technical challenge. |
